When it comes to supply, organic heirloom vegetable seeds are the tiny minority, about 5%. Why are there so few organic seeds available? Well, it’s just easier to not jump all the bureaucratic hoops required to get the seeds certified. It’s expensive and time consuming. Therefore, very few organic farmers and gardeners are willing to engage in the process. However, many organic seeds for sale out there are being labeled as “All Natural” because the government hasn’t as of yet, taken legal control of that word. When you buy seeds labeled all natural you might not be getting anything remotely close to organic or it could be purely organic, you just will not know. So it is a risk. But what are you risking? Usually about 10% more for the seeds. It might sound like a lot but when you divide the price by the number of seeds you are really only talking about a penny or two. If you were to purchase a single pack of 30 organic heirloom Brandywine Tomato Seeds from us, it will cost you $4.50. But divide that by 30 seeds and it really is only .15 cents per seed and that seed will produce about 30 incredibly delicious and healthy heirloom tomatoes, which brings your cost to less than a penny per tomato!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that’s why you should grow organic heirlooms because when you get into the details of the true cost, they are astonishing.
Then there is other values with the organic (all natural) heirloom vegetable seeds. They did come from organic vegetables and therefore will do very well being grown organically again. However, you are not restricted to staying organic because you could just as easily switch to growing your garden using non organic methods. Organic seeds just allow you an additional option.
