The Baby-boomer generation is responsible for a lot of great things but they haven’t been much of a gardening generation. Unfortunately they got caught up with television, the economic ladder, the stock market and suburban housing among other distractions.
Generation X, the ones that haven’t dedicated their lives to skateboarding careers or playing video games have now picked up the mantle and begun to look at the issue of food and energy and take the responsibility of growing their own healthy food and then eating much of it raw thus saving energy. Call them green freaks if you want but when this small group begins to lead the way, in only a matter of years growing your own vegetables in the backyard garden patch will become mainstream, especially, as their cost of healthcare becomes a fraction of those that eat canned and packaged food full of hybrid and genetically modified and extremely well preserved food.
Many things in the world are changing. Usually, only those that can sustain a glare into the sun will decode the trends before they arrive. All trend gazers are seeing this very same wave of influence. It might be a bit of the hippie gene that is inside the children of the flower children, but they are redefining what it is to be responsible and self sufficient. Unlike their parents, they have witnessed the fallacy of stock markets, video games and oversize meals and homes.
Keep an eye on the young green people and consider learning a thing or two by taking notes.
